Apart from classic materials that have been defining the popular Boker Straight Razor for decades, they are always looking for modern and innovative natural material combinations offering a special look or feel that straight razor users will love.
While forged razors and the classic wet shave are experiencing a renaissance, genuine broadswords are still rare. For the first time in decades, perhaps even centuries, 8/8 inch wide razors are back in Boker range. In times when the mighty blades were even more common, 8/8 inch wide razors with straight heads were called 14s. This marking was stamped into the tang of the blade before the forged blades were hardened. Boker did not miss this special feature and also implemented it in this razor. The 8/8" wide Boker 14er Straight Razor not only bears a historical blade etching with partial gilding, but also a gilded blade back and tang, which is elegantly decorated by a filigree and detailed laser engraving. The complete polishing of the blade and the serration on both sides of the tang round off the features of this knife. The handle made of dark, slightly transparent acrylic blends harmoniously into the overall picture due to the subtle brass inlay. The blade is ground extra hollow with ridge.
Handmade in the Boker Knife Manufactory in Solingen, Germany.
All Boker straight razors come as shave ready. There’s is no need for honing, just strop adequately then you can start shaving.
Straight Razor Care Instructions
Unlike any other shaving tools, straight razors require special care. The cutting edge must be protected from impacts and contact with any hard surface. After each shave you must clean and dry your straight razor with a soft paper towel without touching the very edge and strop it to keep it sharp. You can strop on the canvas side of your strop to clean the cutting edge after each shave. Please do not try to sharpen your straight razor by yourself if you don’t have adequate honing experience, otherwise you can cause irreparable damage. You may consult our straight razor honing service. If you won’t be using your straight razor for a long time, it’s best to cover it with a thin coat of oil to keep it rust free. This is especially important for straight razors with carbon steels, as carbon steel is very prone to rust in humid conditions. Keep your straight razor in a dry place and out of children’s reach.
CAUTION: Straight razors are serious tools for experienced users who know their faces, skins, whisker types and how to lather well. They can cause serious accidents and injuries in the hands of people without enough experience. If you’re enthusiastic about traditional wet shaving but don’t have the experience needed for using a straight razor, then we recommend checking out our double edge safety razors first.
